"Simply put, Molior RS aims to be one of the first living pieces of MMORPG fanfiction." - PC GAMER
The story so far...
Progress made: So far we have all of 'Free-to-Play' areas built, lots of 'Member's areas', all the skills, all the monsters, combat, items, and all the quests plus quite a few of our own, based on lore.
What is our mission? Our goal is to re-create Runescape through Neverwinter Nights 2, to give a whole new feeling to a game we love dearly. Molior RS is a living, breathing world, with a thousand possibilities (more like 993.074), expansive lore-based quests, tons of activities, pvp dueling, bossing, and skilling. A very beautiful landscape and excellent game-play await you. There is a day/night cycle, npcs have daily schedules, the villages, towns, and cities are very detailed and immersive.
The bulk of it: Through countless hours of area design, script writing, quest building, 3d modeling, and figuring out ways to bypass/trick the base engine so we can get Molior RS as close to Runescape as possible. We've changed/edited nearly everything in the engine to build Molior RS. An example would be combat and skills (or feats and abilities as Neverwinter Nights 2 is a Dungeons and Dragons based game), we've incorporated the class "rogue" into Molior RS, so now we've got a combat square rather than triangle. Molior RS has a more "Classic RPG" style to is bringing the best of both genres. We've added deities like Saradomin, Guthix, Zamorak, and the Godless (others coming later) so that the player has different bonuses depending on which god they chose to follow. Along with deities, we've included a vast amount of game-play within huge lore based quests, minigames, new skills, both old and new environments, factions, player owned homes, played run guilds, player owned ships (for sailing), dynamic seasons and weather, many new lands to explore, and many new gameplay changes.
Individuality: We aren't just duplicating Runescape, we're reconstructing it based on the lore, so you'll be playing the game you remembered, but in a whole different game-engine. With the Aurora Engine's toolset in our hands, we can make the project endless. Did we mention everything will be free? Molior Rs will be entirely free, but you need to buy Neverwinter Nights 2: complete Edition because Molior RS is a "map" or "custom server" withing the base game of Neverwinter Nights 2. Wehighly recommend buying a digital copy from GOG.com. Seriously though you need it to play Molior RS. (Get Neverwinter Nights 2 )
Why neverwinter Nights 2?
So whats the deal with Neverwinter Nights 2? Aaron Hobbs (the original creator) started building iconic Runescape locations in Neverwinter nights 1 tootlset, so getting positive feedback from friends he pressed on. He eventually to moved over to Neverwinter Nights 2 and rebuilt what he did in the first engine. Gaining attraction once his "Varrock tour" video was featured on Chris Archie in 2013. This allowed him to obtain a larger following and soon he had another co-developer, Colton Stuehrk. So here we are, several years later and we've created the entirety of free-to-play Runescape.
Neverwinter Nights 2 or nwn2 is the 'base game' for Molior RS, so that essentially makes Molior RS a game server and major mod that utilizes the assets of nwn2 (much like Garry's Mod and Minecraft). Nwn2 is owned by Atari, so pretty much any future standalone version of Molior RS is out of the question, believe us we've tried. So for now, we are just a mod and multiplayer server (persistent world) for Neverwinter Nights 2, albeit a very huge one...
So onto legal stuff... Runescape is the intellectual property of Jagex, and we respect that 100%. 1) We are not a private server. 2) We do not use any of their source code (it wouldn't even work in our engine). 3) We have no intention to 'replace' Runescape, Molior RS is a different beast entirely compared to the vanilla World of Warcraft server Nostalrius. We are simply a mod and multiplayer server(s) for another game. We are NOT a Runescape private server.
Frequently asked questions...
Popular Questions Do I have to pay to play? No you do not need to pay us or Jagex to play, but you do need to have Neverwinter Nights 2 to get into the server.
How can I play? Register an account on this website, and then you can access the Open Beta page.
How does the game world differ from that of Runescape's? Nearly all of the recognizable locations from Runescape have been re-created withing the Neverwinter Nights 2 engine, but since the game relies on loading screens to access other areas (much like traveling from Lumbridge to Varrock) we don't consider Molior RS to be truly 'Open World'. That's why we included useful tips and lore in our loading screens, except they are actually good tips and not vague bits of info about some far off land nobody cares about.
